I tried the brand's BioCompressive High-Rise Legging to continue my Girlfriend Collective fan-girling. There are three vibrant colors to choose from for this high-waisted legging, but it's the sustainability story that drew me in. The fabric is thick yet soft, smoothing out lumps and bumps and adding some light shaping to my backside thanks to 79% recycled plastic bottles and 21% spandex.
Due to the high level of compression, they rolled down at the waist a bit when I flowed through vinyasas. I'm a shorty, so these leggings, like my other pair of GC leggings, bunch up at the ankles if you're short.
While wearing the matching Mia Bra, I practiced in these leggings. Since I'm a 40G, it didn't provide quite enough support for a vigorous flow. While the bra would be perfect for taking a Yin class or lounging around the house, it would also be appropriate for taking a yoga class. Wearing this set makes me feel cute as hell.

I receive compliments nonstop whenever I wear these! These plus-size leggings are like wild socks for your entire legs thanks to their artsy design that belongs in MoMA. I prefer them for Yin and restorative classes, lounging, and long car rides since they have no compression. There are numerous patterns available, some of which come with matching bras. Although Looney Legs carries plus sizes, the XL fit perfectly (except that they are about 2-3 inches too long for my short legs). During lockdown in 2020, Looney Legs was founded by a woman-owned small business.
4. Leggings with hidden pockets that are extra high-waisted from Old Navy
Leggings from Old Navy are Cohan's budget-friendly choice. Cropped leggings with an adorable flower pattern are super soft, silky, stylish, and not overly flashy. In addition to its four-way stretch and light compression, the legging's most notable feature is its super high (and super stretchy) waist. Although Cohan notes that they don't last as long as some higher-priced brands, they are easy to care for and still look stylish after several washes. Pockets are also a plus!
5. PowerLite Lycra Adaptable 7/8-Length Leggings from Old Navy
Budget brands win! My favorite pair of plus-size leggings are these basic black leggings from Old Navy. I love how the ultra-high waist shows off my boobs. The pants don't roll down or suck me in. Plus, these have very mild compression, so they're comfortable enough to sleep in. In addition, the length is just right for my short frame. This week, I've already worn them three times, including to work.
6. Transcend 7/8 Tight by Athleta
As a yoga teacher and regular contributor to YJ, Tamika Caston-Miller loves Athleta, a company that has catered to women of all sizes for decades. Caston-Miller says the leggings from this brand have "buttery soft" fabric and "designs that actually fit." They don’t stretch out and lose color where your legs are fuller, and, thankfully, they don’t make swishing noises when your thighs rub together.
The Transcend 7/8 are high-waisted, velvety soft, and incredibly comfortable. There is no outer seam, which adds a really elegant touch. I experienced some rollage when sitting in Sukhasana (Easy Seat), which might simply be due to my size.
Salutation Stash 7/8 Tight by Athleta
If you prefer more compression, try Athleta's Salutation Stash. The leggings hug your waist, hips, and bum for shape and support. Because of the high compression, I had to size up. My versatile plus-size leggings have been worn in the studio, at work, and on hiking trails (the pockets make them very outdoor friendly).
7. Chrome Curvy Leggings by Booty by Brabants
High-waisted leggings from the curvy line are “one size fits most.” These leggings stretch from size L to XXXL, and although I was skeptical, the textured leggings fit me perfectly. These are the thickest leggings I tested, and the light compression fits comfortably in my belly. Their sassy shine makes them stand out. I feel like a mermaid when I wear them, but the scales conceal any cellulite or dimples you might have (not that you should be!). For shorties like me, the 7/8 length is ideal.
8. High-waisted leggings by Nike Yoga Luxe for women
The high waist of these leggings hits just above my belly button without rolling down. Do-it-all leggings that look stylish outside the studio also feel and move well. In addition, the waistband has a hidden pocket. The nylon-polyester-spandex blend is like Velcro for dog hair and lint, though.
